Yes, Kimberly Guilfoyle’s ‘witchy’ black dress at Tiffany Trump’s wedding was totally ‘tone deaf’

Ivanka Trump made waves on social media for seemingly cropping out Kimberly Guilfoyle for missing the pastel memo at Tiffany Trump's wedding on Saturday.
It was a picture perfect wedding photo. Beneath the Palm Beach sun, Tiffany Trump stood in the middle of the frame, a blushing bride in a white, beaded Elie Saab gown. She was flanked by mother Marla Maples, in a ladylike lavender frock, also by Saab, and her father’s wife, Melania Trump, a vision in a goddess-style peach dress. Her sister-in-law, Lara Trump, glittered in a silver beaded confection, while half sister and matron-of-honor Ivanka Trump looked like a fairy tale in an asymmetrical Cinderella gown. There was just one problem with the image from Tiffany’s Saturday wedding to 25-year-old Lebanese businessman Michael Boulos — but it was cropped out.
Standing next to Ivanka was her brother’s fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, who seemingly did not get the pastel memo. The 53-year-old, who is engaged to Donald Trump Jr., wore a black frock with oversized puff sleeves and a high-low hemline that looked more “Maleficent” evil stepsister than Mar-a-Lago fairy tale. Guilfoyle was part of the original picture with the five Trump women, but Ivanka posted a version to Instagram in which the former Fox News host and ex-wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom had been cut out. The cropped image has set tongues wagging and fanned the flames of the age-old debate about whether or not it’s appropriate to wear black to a wedding.
The uncropped version of Tiffany Trump's wedding photo shows Kimberly Guilfoyle at the end.
“I’m really surprised to see Kimberly in that look – it seems dark and heavy. It looks witchy, like a costume – the makeup is heavy,” Amanda Sanders, a celebrity stylist and fashion consultant told The Post. “It does ruin the look – I can understand Ivanka cutting her out.”
While wearing black to a wedding has long been frowned upon, darker dresses have become more acceptable over the years. For certain nuptials — say an elegant New York evening wedding or artsy second-time around affair — they’re now considered OK. But, the occasion has to be appropriate and those who will appear in family photos should be especially cautious, lest they ruin the look on Instagram, Sanders said.
“If I was Tiffany, I would be annoyed … This is beautiful Palm Beach and during daylight,” the fashionista fumed. She added that the dress’s heavy fabric and dramatic silhouette were also uncouth. “It’s just tone deaf.”
On social media, the fashion police were no gentler.
“I find her outfit rather insulting, tbh [to be honest],” one harsh critic commented on a Page Six story. “She looks like she’s part of the Addams family, not the Trump family!!”
The instagram post Ivanka Trump initially shared cropped out Kimberly.
Some associated Guilfoyle’s dress with mourning.
“Everyone else looked dressed for a wedding, but to Kimberly Guilfoyle’s credit she dressed for the funeral of the Republican Party. Well played,” someone quipped on Twitter.
Another tweet likened the frock to the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz.
Ivanka seemed to offer up a halfhearted apology for the cropping kerfuffle. On Sunday, the former first daughter posted the full image, with Guilfoyle included, and a flurry of smiley face with hearts emoji on her Instagram story. But, the cropped version of the image remained on her Instagram grid. That’s understandable, Sanders says.
“You have to think about the whole visual,” she said.
