Traveling with a Suit: The Do's and Don'ts

Whether you are traveling for work or a wedding, a suit is often needed but also a dreaded item to bring along in your suitcase as it wrinkles easily en route to the destination. However, there are some tips and tricks to keep in mind to avoid showing up with a wrinkly suit.

First and foremost, it is essential to pack a suit made from materials that are wrinkle resistant. Materials that are best to travel with include wool with added spandex or elastane, polyester and viscose or cupra lining. Other wool blends that are wrinkle resistant and easy to travel with are wool suits that also include lycra and polyester. In addition, polyester, viscose and spandex blended suits are good to travel with.

Paul Smith, Brooks Brothers, Burberry and Bonobos, have created some really nice travel suits that have been tried and tested and surely do not tend to wrinkle while on the go.

Not only do you not want your suit to wrinkle, but it is important to try and keep your ties, bowties and pocket squares ready to wear, as well. Silk is the best material to travel with since the way that silk is made, it often retains it’s shape as well as does not wrinkle as long you try your best to keep it flat. When traveling with a pocket square, your best bet is bring along those from Well Suited NYC. These pocket squares are already pre-folded and can easily lay flat. Then, when it’s time to wear it you can just slip it in your pocket and you’re good to go!

It’s also key, if you can, to travel with a garment bag. This was you have more control of how you lay your suit down and where it is. However, if you have to put it in a suitcase try and use a folding bag that has a spot made for hanging clothes.

Though traveling can be a hassle, packing suits and accessories made from the right materials will make your life so much easier. Forget about ironing right before an event and pack suits made from wool blends and accessories made from silk. This was you can arrive at your destination and quickly get dressed in the needed attire.
